Creating inclusive, diverse partnerships with children and community
Welcome to Wingate Avenue Children's Co-Operative. We are proud to be a Not-For-Profit Centre that prioritises high-quality care and education for the Ascot Vale area and surrounds. This commitment to our community is reflected in our reputation and our recent rating by the Department of Education as Exceeding in all seven Quality Areas (August 2022).
Wingate Avenue Children's Co-operative is built upon the Traditional Lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung People of the Kulin Nation. The Wingate team would like to acknowledge their continued connection to the lands and waters and thank them for caring for Country for thousands of generations. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging, and recognise that Aboriginal Sovereignty was never ceded.
Always Was, Always Will Be, Aboriginal Land.

Welcome to the land of the Wurundjeri people
Wingate Avenue Children’s Co-Operative first opened its doors in 1975 and we have been providing education and care to children within the local community ever since. The service shares its location with the Wingate Avenue Community Centre and has recently finished our building renovations, with new, purpose-built environments that have been architecturally designed to optimise children's learning and development.
Wingate Avenue is a 70-place, not-for-profit Long Daycare Service, providing early education for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years. We provide Government Funded 3-year-old and 4-year-old Kindergarten programs within our curriculum.
As a not-for-profit service, we have a priority of access to families who live in the Ascot Vale Housing Estate, with 50% of our places reserved for families from that community in order to offer pathways for families to access high-quality care and education.
Our Centre is run by a small group of volunteer families who act as our Committee of Management, alongside our Director Gina, our Administrator, Christine and our Education and Family Support Manager, Alison. This management structure allows us to advocate and support our invaluable team of educators with above-award pay, flexible working hours and ongoing opportunities for professional and personal development. Without our educator team, we would not be the service that we are today. For more information about our Educators, click here.
Our philosophy revolves around the importance of relationships. We prioritise relationships with our families, children and community in order to create a curriculum and environment that truly reflects and respects the people who are impacted by it. We believe in the importance of play as learning, and ensure children are given the opportunity to learn through all their senses. For more information about our philosophy, click here.
